Easy fairy wings

I use organza or any other sheer and fun fabric.

1. Using a fairly lightweight wire bend a wing shape that you like leaving some wire where you twist the ends together.

2. Lay it on top of your other wire and make another wing that matches it leaving extra wire to use to attach the wings to each other and/or the doll.

3. Laying the wire wings on foil or plastic wrap apply glue to all of the wire.

4. Gently lay your organza fabric onto the glued wires.

5. At this point you can apply glitter if you choose.

6. Turn the fabric, attached to the wires over, and once again place glue on the wires and apply more glitter.

7. When they are dry just cut them out close to the wire and glitter or cut them out leaving a half inch or so and burn the organza using a candle to make another look to your wings.

Now you can add more glitter or whatever you want to finish the wings. Just remember you want them fairly light weight.

8. If you're making a fabric fairy you can push a hole into the back of the doll and into the stuffing. Glue the twisted wire and push them into the doll in whatever position you want. With clay fairies you can use other methods of attaching the wings.

These are super easy so have fun!!!

Artist from the recent Reno/Iowa Retreat and I worked on this creation. The retreat which Sherry Goshon and Jean Bearnard have annually was one of the most enriching times of my life. If you ever get a chance to go to one of their classes or take an online class, do so.......it will make a world of difference. Out of the box.

I'm delighted to say that the Saving the TaTas fundraiser in support of the battle against breast cancer is getting better and better as we get to the October 15 event date.

We currently have 19 artists from throughout the USA contributing to the Silent Auction of 3-Dimensional, Mixed-Media Art and Art dolls for a total of over 2 dozen works... with more to come.

Here is a little follow up on whats going on in the next few months.

August 11th: Shrink Plastic Doll Necklace Meeting, $5.00 member/guest fee still applies.
Location: Amy's House, Noon, Bring a dish if you want to.

I am attaching a photo of the shrink doll necklace so you can refresh your memory to what it looks like. I will order the shrink sheets from Lucky Duck, oh nuts I mean Squirrel.
Supplies needed: Bring any stamp or stamp ink that you may have, chain, jump rings, beads, little feet if you want.

September 22nd: Our 1 year anniversary and we will be having a Meeting/party $5.00 member/guest fee still applies.
Location - Yvonnes House address to follow.
Yvonne and Diane are hosting, no need to bring food.
Time: NOON-

Remember to put together your supplies to make a doll, put your supplies and your Name in the Red Bag when we get to the meeting we will be putting a number on your bag and giving you the other half of that number. Do not lose that number or show it to anyone because when you choose your Red Bag you DO NOT want to choose the number we handed you.

Bring back the completed Christmas gift/doll to our December Doll club meeting/party, when you return the bag put the name of the person on the outside of the bag, or better yet box it and wrap it in Christmas wrap and put it back into the red bag or use the red bag as your wrap with some tissue.

Remember whatever you put in the bag is coming back to you in the form of a doll, and if the person who gets your bag chooses not to use all of the stuff in your bag you will get back that stuff too.

Cindi's hubby Steve and probably my hubby Dennis will help with the cooking, I think Dennis will be the bartender thou.

Nov 6th- Cindi's house, Some ladies will be sleeping over, Some ladies will be driving back for a second day of fun NO $5.00 fee for this day. Cindi will be teaching tiny shoes so if you have a doll you want shoes for bring that doll with you.

Update on June Doll Club Meeting

Once again we had a great Meeting with 10 people in attendance. Amy was the only member not here, she was off having fun in California with her family.
We welcomed a new gal to our group her name is Carolyn, she also comes with great credentials.

We all showed off are class dolls, pin dolls, mini class brooch & mini class kimono from CIFI along with our Challenge Dolls with their Blue Ribbons that we were so proud of. We shared our stories from the conference except of course what was said in the car on the way to conference because what was said on the way to Albuquerque stays in the car. We know each other so well we have to stay friends forever for fear of what was said will be repeated if we part ways.

We talked about our club goals and about yearly Membership Dues. We talked about wanting like minded artist's in our doll club those with a spirit of giving and sharing.

Cynthia made a wonderful photo frame for Cindi and I in remembrance of our fantastic time at CIFI and the Laughter we all shared.

July 14th is Shiva Paint Demo, Cynthia will be sending out supply list and don't forget we share if we don't have all the supplies needed.- New Location

AMAZING ART

Last Spring Dennis and I went to the Desert Botanical Gardens here in Phoenix to see The Nature of Glass, Dale Chihuly art sculpture exhibit.

This was his first exhibit in an outdoor desert environment.

It was 107 degrees, hotter than the hinges of hell or what I think hell feels like having never been there. The exhibit was spectacular and worth it. It was our own fault we should have gone earlier in the season. If we had we would have gone again to see the exhibit in the evening, because they light up the glass sculpture at night.

All the glass sculptures were mixed into the desert landscape they truly looked like they belonged there. The colors, imagination, craftsmanship and the incredible talent…WOW!
I would recommend if one of his exhibits is ever in your area, it’s a must see.

The wonders of our world

We, not our outer circumstances are the catalysts for the quality of our lives. Not then, not now, not ever. I have this quote (no author) written in a small journal and very time I read it I am reminded that I control my life...I choose to become angry or joyful, sad or happy....productive or lazy. Today I walked outside into our wonderful front yard. 72 degrees at 6:00 a.m. and the sun just peeking through the trees. I got my camera to keep this moment in time for me and others to see the wonders of our world. No matter what is going on around us...we have choices. I choose to see beauty today and let the rest of the planet make up their own minds.

Another great meeting! I just love this group. The gang going to CIFI was all a-buzz about getting ready for the conference. Rose shared the polka-dot bags that we'll be using at the conference, and asked if anyone else would like to purchase one. Very cute bags by the way, and I don't think it's too late to let Rose know if you want one. $9.72 each! I think the colors are pink/green, brown/aqua, black/pink, but ask Rose to find out for sure.

Rose also shared that she will be selling purse hangers at the conference that say "I'm a Fabric Floozie!"
There were some very cute embellished hats, that were a part of the May challenge. I think the best news was our dear friend Susan was back after her surgery and seems to be doing very well! We missed you Susan!

The workshop was run by our very own Moon Goddess aka Cindi Phelps. She taught us how to make heirloom lace hair, using several different tools & a sewing machine. She demonstrated ones you can buy and she showed how to make one using anything from a coat hanger to wooden skewers! I learned a lot!!!

Next months workshop is on using Shiva Paint sticks for doing faces. I will publish the supply list when I get back from the conference!

Also, the June challenge is to decorate your tin that Rose gave us last month. Kudos to Amy and Deloris for already having theirs done!

Wow, this month's meeting was a blast! Our workshop this month was marbeling with Mary! Mary taught a great workshop on how to dye fabric using shaving cream and dye. I think eveyone had a blast!

Our challenge for this month was to make name tag that reflected who we are; I think Ms. Deloris get's the prize for making one that really looked herself. Everyone did an amazing job.

Next month's challenge is to decorate the hats and alter the treasure chest tins, compliments of Rose, and bring them next month. Our May workshop will be conducted by Cindi a.k.a Moon Goddess on how to make doll hair with the hair pin tool. More information to follow on what supplies to bring with you next mont.

Some sad news; Kathi will no longer be joining us as she got a teaching gig on Wednesdays, and our dear friend Susan fell and broke her sholder and will be out of commission for awhile. We miss you sweet friend!

As usual the meeting went by way too fast, but it was a great time for everyone!

I enjoyed teaching a bunch of our group how to bead around a polymer face. Everyone wanted to know what to do with them after they finished. Here is one of the ideas I came up with.

Recap of March 10 Doll Club Meeting

What a great meeting we had this month! Yvonne led a "hands-on" demonstration; generously allowing us to use her molds and Ultra Light Sculpey - White. Mary also brought some great molds and everyone walked away with at least one sample to take home.

The Show & Tell table was a great hit and the dollar challenge dolls were all so unique and creative! What a talented bunch of women we have in this club.

We welcomed a new member, Kathi (with an i) :) and we had a lady from the YMCA, Deloris, sit in to see if this was something that she would like to attend regulary. We hope she comes back!

The challenge for April's meeting is "Name Tags!" Everyone should make a name tag to wear to each meeting - bonus points if it looks like you!

Also for April's meeting - we will be doing "Marbeling with Mary," as she leads us through a workshop on dying fabric using inks and shaving cream! An email and later post will outline the supplies you need to bring to the meeting.

I had such a nice time on Wednesday, hopefully we can stay in the new location. I'm looking forward to teaching the bracelett at Anthem in Florence the end of this month. Teaching others my love of beads always gives me so much. Sharing stories, ideas and thoughts fills my artist soul.

The cernit demonstration was very nice and I hope we can have other demonstrations throughout this year.

bracelet class

Susan is teaching her wonderful bracelet here at Anthem at Merrill Ranch on February 26th. Some of you from the doll club are taking the class, too. My address, for those of you coming, is 6601 W Sandpiper Ct., Florence, AZ 85132. You will stop at the clubhouse on Sun City Blvd. where the class will be held. Susan is generously teaching the class for $35.00 person if anyone else is interested. This is an all day class.

Some of us are also interested in having her teach her cabochon class. Perhaps there is a more central location for that? Or we can do it here, also. Who else is interested?

And look at those numbers grow!!! This is great and hearing everyone's ideas is so fun. The room works beautifully, too.

I'm delighted that some of you want to go to the doll conference in May. On your computer just key in Creations In Fiber, Inc. and the site should come up with all of the information regarding registration, classes with supply lists and hotel information. Browse it and if you want to go you may want to find a roomie or you may want to room alone. In the next couple of months we can set up carpools. It looks like 2 carloads. I have a big car with a large trunk and can take 3 more people comfortably. See you all next month.

Great News!!! Dollie MaMa and the Fabric Floozies has another new location.

Day & Date: Second Wednesday of every month
Time: Noon-2pm (we still don't have to drive when it's dark, and we can bring our own food.)
Place: YMCA-Valley of the Sun Power Ranch Family YMCA
4546 East Haven Crest, Gilbert, AZ 85297
(It's in the Power Ranch Community, go to google maps for directions)
Same Great price of $5.00 per meeting, per month as long as we have 10 ladies in attendance.

We have lots of room to grow, light, bright and great atmosphere. We have more elbow room, a kitchen with refridgerator, and even a sink in our meeting space. The increased space will not only allow us to accommodate additional members, but also provide space to bring in other artists as instructors for seminars... which could even stimulate club growth by making other artists in the area aware of our group. We are able to extend our hours if we need to when we have an actual class with other teachers. Of course there will be a small fee of $25 per hour, when divided among us that won't amount to much. My goal as the club founder is to bring in fresh ideas and techniques that will benefit each of us. As our club grows, I also hope to obtain discounts and other benefits for club members with fabric stores and other merchants in the area.

My house full is gone and now I can get back to playing.

We had a fantastic turnout 13 ladies, a lot of fun and such creative ladies we all are.
Some of us arrived early so we could have lunch and enjoy Lynda's great food.
We started out with introductions since we had quite a few new ladies, then show and tell was next. I then explained to everyone how I make my boobs for my dolls.

We started our first Round Robin this month, we have 10 participants, we all brought a torso, a journal and a box or bag to put our torso in. Yvonne expained and gave us copies of the guidelines and a list of the participants. We took photos with our torso because the next time we see our torso she will be a doll with her own personality.

Thank you all for coming and making this club such a success.

Our Next Meeting is February 10th, Noon-2pm. New Location: YMCA-Valley of the Sun Power Ranch Family YMCA, 4546 East Haven Crest, Gilbert, AZ 85297 It's in the Power Ranch Community.

CHANDLER CENTER FOR THE ARTS HOSTS EXHIBITION

CHANDLER,AZ- She is Filled with Secrets: The Beaded Artworks of Christy Puetz. Exhibited Jan. 15 through Feb. 27, 2010, at the Chandler Center for the Arts, 250 N. Arizona Ave., Chandler.

An opening reception for this exhibition of small, colorful artworks will take place on Friday, Jan. 22, from 7-9 p.m. at the Chandler Center for the Arts. The reception is free and open to the public.

Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon-4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission to the gallery is free.

January's Club Meeting

Wow, what a turn out for the January doll club meeting! I had a blast and I am so excited about the round robin! It was great meeting so many new people. The show & tell was amazing - so many talented doll artists; my head was just buzzing with ideas and I will be in my studio all day working on some new dolls.

I just can't express how much this club has come to mean to me. Having other artists to gather with, and share ideas - does so much for my soul! I thank you all for the gifts you are giving to me. See you in Febuary ~ Cynthia

Gretchen Lima's Class

Hi ladies, in past meetings we have talked about Gretchen Lima and the desire to take one of her classes. I checked her website and she has her WiseWoman Workshop coming up on Feb, 20th. It's a Saturday and is from 10:00 - 3:00, and will be at her studio in Vail, AZ.

The cost is $125. I would be interested in going and being part of a car pool if others are interested. Let's chat about it at our next meeting!

Round Robin Guidelines

GUIDELINES FOR THE ROUND ROBIN

1. Everyone wishing to participate should bring a completed cloth body/torso, in a bag or box, to the January meeting.
A good size is 6 to 7 inches from top of neck to the crotch.
The doll will be going from person to person and growing so think of that when you box or bag her/him

2. Include a journal with your name clearly evident that will travel with the doll.
Each person will add to the journal as well as the doll while you have it. Think creativity.
Writing, pictures, artwork, a story are all acceptable for inclusion in the journal

3. It is each participant's responsibility to get the doll and journal to each club meeting so it can go to the next participant.
If you can't make it to the meeting get it to someone else who is going to the meeting. This is very important to keep all dolls in rotation, where they should be and completed on time.

4. Add such things as arms, legs, a head, draw and color the face, hair, garments, accessories, beading. Don't get carried away and do too much but not too little either.

5. Do your best work. Remember that someone else is doing their best on your doll.

6. When the last person gets each doll it is her responsibility to make sure the doll is completed before it is returned to its owner.

7. Don't show the dolls. Keep them concealed in the bag or box. No peaky!!!

After the list is made you will give your doll to the person after you on the list. Every month you will pass the doll in your possession to that same person. The person at the bottom of the list passes to the person at the top. This way you always know who you pass a doll onto and each doll will be worked on by all members. Don't deviate from the order or there will be a mess.

At the end it's fun to have a coming out party and get to see each completed doll for the first time. It really gets exciting.

Hi to all my fellow fabric floozies and of course the Dollie MaMa! :) I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season; I sure did! I am working on my torso and I am very excited about the round robin!

I have started the journal for my doll and I even found a "luggage tag," to attach to my dolls carry bag, in the dollar bins at Michaels. I will have her packed and ready to go by our meeting on the 13th!

I can't wait to see everyone!

Here is the brooch that I hurriedly made for demoing painted Tyvek (postal service mailer envelopes) and toilet paper tubes. It is embellished with glass glitter and micro-beads. The others had a ball shrinking the tyvek and creating.

I am new to this blogging thing and have spent the day trying to figure out how to add my two cents. I finally called Susan and she gave me the information I needed to get started. I'm sorry Rose, I didn't read the email thoroughly enough or I could have saved myself a lot time.
Anyway, I wanted to say that I am very happy with our new club house. Thanks Rose, you sure have been working hard at this. It is such a bright and cheery place for us to have fun with our dolls. I am looking forward to our doll round robin. I also wanted to say what a nice friendly group of women. You all have so much to contribute. Hope we all have a nice holiday season and will see you next year, if we don't see each other before then.

Recap of December 9th Doll Club Meeting

Okay, here goes this is how I remember the meeting! We all had fun and six of us were in attendance
We all shared, Mary was working on doll ornaments, Susan, on a beautiful necklace and a pink beaded doll for one of her other groups, I love Susan's beaded dolls they feel so nice to hold. Deborah is working on a doll from Patti Culea pattern and doing a great job, Cynthia brought in some wonderful books that she found at the half price bookstore. I can hardly wait to go and check that bookstore out. It's on Southern by Fiesta Mall. Cynthia is also making some dolls and patterns so she can teach at JoAnn Fabrics. Yvonne made two very darling dolls for her grandchildren. Yvonne also shared with us all the round robins she has done along with the wonderful journals that go along with each doll. Oh almost forgot to mention Yvonne jackets they were beautiful. I showed everyone my new line of dolls The Fabulous Floozies, I am having so much fun making them. They make me laugh every time I get one finished and figure out what she is saying. Its the kind of stuff I would love to say but never would because of that Catholic Italian background. My dad is probably turning over in his grave. LOL
I know there is alot more that we discussed but I will let you girls fill in the gaps for me I need to sew!

Hi everyone! I had a great time at the meeting last night and I just love our new location. Linda is a hoot and it is so cool that we are on our way to our very own chair! I am excited about our round robin and I am already thinking about the journal for my doll. So many great and fun things on the horizon with this group!
